Default older heads carb swap

I have an 89 ram with 318 & tbi. I'm trying to get away from EFI and EGR. I have the opportunity to get heads, intake, and 2 barrel carb from a '68 318. Anyone know if they're interchangeable?

you would also need other parts like a wiring harness and a distributor for a carburated engine. i don't see why you would need to swithch the heads. i think all you would need is to switch the intake manifold.

I wasn't sure if they were different being EGR versus the older non EGR. I have access to a 100% complete 1968 318 with a bad block, so good top end and distributor, etc.

i just rememebed that you will also need some type of fuel regulator to lower the fuel pressure for the carb. i don't know if the wiring harness out of the 68 would work for 89. that would be a lot of custom wiring. it might me easier to find a wiring harness from 87 or so dodge ram that does not have a computer.

I'd go ahead and get that engine. Heads aren't going to do you much good, no hardened valve seats, but if the pistons and rods are good, get'em. As they are a free floating rod and the pistons are a 9.2-to-1 compression, compare that to yours. Now, all you need to find is aset of 340 X or J heads and the steel crank, it will all work, and get a four-barrel intake, and mild cam. That will wake up some horsepower.

It's possible that the 68 318 would have a steel crank, I know the 67 did for sure. 68 intake will fit on the 89 engine. Might have to block egr somehow.
