Default 318 engine swap questions

i found a 2bbl 318 from a 88 5th ave 147k miles for $200obo. it is currently bolted to a auto and mine is a 4 speed. will it work and will there be any power difference? would $150 be a fair price?

it should work. $200 is a steal as long as it runs good. are you sure it is a 2bbl carb and not tbi?

i talked to the guy this afternoon and he was positive it is, and i done some looking around on the net and what i found said these cars never did go to tbi like the trucks did in the late 80's. i'm gonna check it out tomorrow evening he don't get home til after 7pm. he said no smoke or oil burning runs smooth and is very clean. i guess he got it from the local car auction a few months ago, done a tune up then the tranny failed 2 weeks later... so it's got some new goodies on it and i can hear it run before i decide. i was thinking of offering him $150 if i pull and $200 if he pulls it out of the car. will snap a few pictures

engine runs good, revs up no missing, oil looks good... he said i can have the whole car for $200. but... how can i find out what style crank it has to see if it will go to my tranny? this has a box on the side of the air cleaner that says electronic fuel something or another. if i rebuild this one i could still upgrade to 4bbl carb and intake and just do away with all of the electronic stuff i don't need right?

Is there something wrong with your motor? Why spend time swapping in a 318 when 360's are plentiful and cheap?

You can use the Mopar Performance ignition kit and do away with the computer (box on the air cleaner) . I did that on my 5th Ave. and it runs better than ever.

i thought about a 360, then i thought about the mpg i would get with one. a 318 probably wouldn't be much better than a 360 but i can get this car for $200 take the engine out and part the car and make my money back. plus it has nice leather buckets that would look good in the truck, i just don't know if the donor 318 will hook up to my 435 4 speed since it is currently bolted to a automatic. anyone know any info on this? i have done alot of searching and have come up empty handed

the car has a 904 and i know it has 23 splines, but i don't know how long the shaft is and if it is tapered. my 435 also has 23 splines and it is 8 3/8" input shaft and most likely has a tapered roller bearing and cup. anyone know anything about these 904/998/999 transmissions?

Other than the pilot hole in the crank non of that other stuff matters. Splines mate to the clutch disk or the torque converter and so have nothing to do with the crank. The length of the transmission shaft will match the bell housing depth and should work with any crank in any 318 for 84 and 88. If you want to be positive call your local engine machine shop and ask if 84 and 88 crankshafts are the same.
