please timing help

Default please timing help

this 93 d150 318 magnum is driving me nuts,
i line the cam and crank gears up dot to dot on the original before removal,did not remove yet. rotor always points to #6 in the cap.
what gives???

1.you didn't need to create a new thread. 2. you distributor is probably 180* off.

sorry about new thread. never had dist out,was running better than perfect,but 127,000 figured its time

That is the way it is supposed to be. You are setting cam timing, not ignition.
If you did not move the distributor you are OK.

charlie1935,so i line dots up,and dont worry about where the rotor faces,take the old one off and put the new one on the same way dot to dot

I am replacing my gears/chain also. The trouble is that my cam gear teeth broke when the vehicle was running so obviously the marks no longer line up. Luckily it happened at idle so hopefully nothing is severely damaged internally. I figured it was worth a shot to try and replace the gears/chain than start hunting for a new engine just yet.

My question is how do I know when which cycle my cam is on opposed to the crank since the crank rotates twice for every rotation of the cam? (Thanks Crazywolfe from another thread).

Just line the dots up and it will be in time.
