Default 93 W150 help!

I just bought my first dodge. I dont know much about them. Its a 93 4x4 w150 with the 318. Everything works great besides the speedometer and odometer doesn't work. He said there was a new trans put in it and ever since then it has not worked. Any ideas anyone? Also it doesn't seem that the overdrive switch works either i don't think it ever goes into overdrive.

Your speedometer/odometer is all electronic. You might want to check all of the electrical connections in both systems to start with. What transmission do you have?

I have a 93 W350, you need a new Vehicle Speed Sensor. It's located on the transfer case. When you get it though you might have a little trouble because 93 is the cross over year, so you have the speed sensor from the 92' so just tell them you have a 92 W150

I usually don't help chevy guys but in your case I will make an exception. Just kidding. If you are going to work on your own truck invest in a good manual and go by the dealer to get a free build sheet for your specific truck. The manual will pay for itself many times over and the build sheet lets you know exactly what is in your truck. I always try to check the free things first and that is why I said check the electrical connections. Whoever replaced the trans may not have plugged something back in. If every thing is plugged in then I agree with Husker350 that the speed sensor is the next thing to suspect. Unfortunately there is no trouble shooting info I can find for this system so part replacement is the only alternative.

If you don't know what transmission is in it are you sure they put an overdrive transmission back in it?

the best way to find out what transmission is in your truck is to take your vin # to the dealership and get them to print you out a build sheet. it is free. i would not replace the speed sensor yet. i would first check to see if it was installed correctly. they might of installed it incorrectly. your overdrive might not be working because your speedometer is not working.

On the drivers side of the transmission on the side of the flange that the pan bolts to, you will find three sets of numbers. Take these numbers to the dealer and they can ID your transmission. While you are there you can get your build sheet to make sure you have the same type transmission that came in the truck.
