Default Oil pressure

So my oil pressure gauge hasn't worked since I've had the truck. It's an 89 d100. The sending unit doesn't appear to be leaking, is there a way to test it on/off the engine?

They can be bad and not leak.

Is there a way to check so I don't go out and buy a new one if it's just a bad gauge??

i don't know 100% how they work but i am pretty sure they work using resistance just like most of the other gauges.

I don't have much faith in the stock electric type. I'd reccomend going to an after market manual type.

Just go buy a sending unit from autozone as they allow you to return it even if you have used it slightly. This is how I do a lot of my diagnosing.
