Default Relay Help!

Ok. My 1988 W150 with 318 has had some trouble starting on occasion. It would crank but no fire. Well, it gave up the ship last night and will not start at all. I want to start with the ASD relay and move on from there. But I do not know which relay it is. I have 3 relays on the drivers fender. 2 metal ones on the outside and one plastic one right in the middle. Can someone tell me which relay it is and how to test it? Thanks in advance!!

It is usually the closest to the battery but here is how you ID it by the terminals and trouble shoot it. The wire colors may be different but you can figure it out from this. If you have problems post the color wires on yours and we will help you but the terminal ID numbers on the relay are the same.

Well, I checked out all the relays and everything tested good. It had been 2 days since I tried to start my truck. I thought what the heck I will try again. It tried to start the first time I turned it over, but then died. I cranked it again and it started. It acted like it was very flooded. I brought the rpms up a couple of times to clean it out and it ran great. ??? Could it be flooding at times? Can a FI motor flood out? Is it possible the fuel pressure regulator is going bad or maybe an injector sticking open? I am open to suggestions. I am running again, but I really do not like the idea of it happening again and leaving me stranded somewhere. Thanks for the help!!

The nice thing about the TBI that we have is that you can just look and see if your injectors are working properly or not. You can see the cones when it is running and if an injector was dripping fuel when the truck is not running you can see that also if the key is on.

Just to answer your question, yes a FI vehicle can flood. If this is suspected on our trucks you hold the peddle to the floor just like on a carb vehicle and crank it until it starts in 15 second spurts. On newer vehicles you put the peddle to the floor once and let it up then crank it until it clears and starts.

Thank you again Seal. I will check out the injectors and see if I have drips or leaks with the key on and vehicle off. If it happens again, I will try the good ole hold er flat on the floor trick!

Hey Seal, I have one more question for you. While troublshooting I got a code of 37. I looked this up and it says Torque converter clutch solenoid CKT or park/neutral switch failure. I do not have a CEL on but should I be worried about this code?

I wouldn't worry about it. I have that code also. I have had that code since the truck rolled off the showroom floor. I do not have that system in my truck and I doubt you do either.

Thanks. I did not think that applied as I have the 727TF tranny. Thanks again for all your help.
