Welcome to DF. First, before anything else, please read this.
I saw in the other thread that your truck is a 1991 model year. I will move this thread to the 1st gen section for ya (pre-1994 Ram).

I put a Thrush welded muffler on mine and I like it because of the performance tone without all the noise. I still set off some sensitive car alarms when I pass by but it isn't unbearable in the cab.
Where does your exhaust exit? Out the back, behind the rear tires, before the rear tires, or a turn down after the muffler? Also, is it single in - single out?
I had single in - single out with a turn down right behind the muffler and it was louder in the cab because of the resonating effect. You could also go with side exits in front of the rear wheels if you want to hear it better. I eventually went with free flowing single out the back to keep it a little quieter in the cab that way I could hear the stereo better. The longer the pipe and the more bends you put in the pipes the quieter it will be. Just because you don't hear it as well doesn't mean it's necessarily quieter to others. It's just like having speakers facing you vs. facing away from you at the same volume. It just sounds louder in your direction.
But if you just want to hear some exhaust noise, probably should have gone with glasspacks IMO. Then you could dump water down them when their hot and blow out the insides.
