Default Dual Batteries?

Since im possibly going to be setting my Ram up as a support truck for competition vehicles one of the things im looking at doing will be adding a second battery. Has anyone done this? Im mostly concerned with how to mount the second battery. Either under the hood or in the box.

smash the tabs on your current battery tray flat and then turn you current battery 90* and set another battery beside it. my dad told be this is how he use to do it on his home made tow trucks. the only thing your have to do is build your own battery holder.

I put my second battery on the passengers fender straight across from the original and mounted it the same way as the original. Batteries are heavy and they are mounted to sheet metal so distributing the weight makes sense to me. You should use a battery isolator in the charging system.

My 2nd battery fits right between the coolant overflow tank and the windshield washer fluid tank without modification. My battery support is homemade out of 1/8th inch angle iron and flat stock and uses basic tie down rods.

just trying to visualize this..so basically you used 4 pieces of angle iron and created a tray for the battery to sit in correct? with flat stock under it for strength? and im guessing you ran angle iron from this tray down to the inner fender?

something like this one that sixgun posted the link to?

Very similar to what is pictured. A frame of 1" angle iron with a center cross piece of flat stock as a stiffener. Two flat stock ears for the battery hold down bolts. One stub of flat stock for the upper fender attachment bolt and 2 angle iron pieces for lower support. I also run a smaller piece of "bend to fit" flat stock on both batteries from the outside upper hold down bolt at the top of the battery to the fender seam for stability on rough roads. I would show a picture if I could but I do not have the technology or knowledge to do so. Sorry, I am just a shade tree mechanic not an electronic gizmo tech.
