Default 5.9L or 440 cu. in.

Is the LA 440 ci the same block as the LA 5.9L? I'm thinking about a swap and if the 440 block is an enlarged 5.9 then there's no substitute for cubic inches.

440 is 7.2L. a 5.9L is only a 360.

No... The 5.9 L is 360 cubic inches, the 440 is a 7.2 L. That would be awesome if you put a 440 in a Ram!

a 440 would do just as good of a job at a fraction of the price

True, that is why I built a 451 with 525hp.... much cheaper than a Hemi! But you gotta admit that big old elephant looks impressive..... I have seen that burnout video before, Really cool, I transplanted a 440 in my old 82 Ramcharger 4X4 I miss that truck.

that is a pretty nice engine. i bet with the right hood and a bit of a body lift i could hide that thing under the hood of my truck lol.

speaking of ram chargers. i think this one is powered by a 440

Had a 440 in my Ram got 12 miles to the gallon towing or not. Putting a built 383 in it now should have more power than the 440 did.

I know the 5.9L is 360 cu. in. while the 440 is 7.2L. That's not what I'm asking. I want to know if the physical size of the blocks are the same, as well as motor mounts/bell housing, etc.. The idea is that if a 5.9L will fit, will the 440 also fit. Before someone says, "anything can fit with the right amount of money", I'm talking real world reality. I understand that the 70's "Warlock", was available w/440 engine, while the similar "Lil Red Express" came w/360. This leads to my question. If the Red Express had the 360 (5.9L) and the "Warlock" had the 440 (7.2L), are the engine the same physical size since both trucks came w/different engine both same body.

no the blocks are not the same size. the bell housing on a 440 or Big block is different than the bell housing on on a 5.9 or small block. a 440 will fit if you get a big block transmission and it has the right oil pan and pickup. there are websites that sell the parts you would need to do the conversion.
