As has already been said either will fit in your truck with the right trans, oil pan and exhaust maniflds or headers. These parts are usually at a premium and often not "available" because the people you are talking to about them don't really know what they are talking about. There is an easy way to know whether it is a big or small block is Big Block = front distributor, Small lock = rear distributor. I had two trucks with big blocks and loved them both. As you said originally "there is no substitute for cubic inches". Good Luck with whatever you decide to do.

The 360 is an LA series engine, while the 440 is an RB. They are not the same design. Yes, it would fit. But as far as your criteria of basically dropping it in like its another smallblock, no. You could always do a 408 stroker.

They sell motor mounts too. At least for trucks up to 93. It's a pretty easy swap.
