1990 W150 "Y" Power steering issues
you don't have to replace the belt. you just need to tighten it which should not be to hard. should just have to loosen 1 14mm bolt and pull pump till belt is tighter and then tighten the bolts again.
Awesome! Thanks everyone I'll try tightening it first.. I was actually just looking at it and couldn't find the tensioner.. Do I really have to take the fan off and alternator to get the PS belt off? I'm gonna try tightening it for now but for future reference.. I know I know I need a haynes manual
no but you do have to take all the other belts off. the alternator and power steering pump act as there own tensioner which is a good thing. the newer serpentine belt system used on almost every new vehicle sucks.
Ok, so there was no tightening the belt... It was as tight as you could get it and still skipped. So I went out and got another belt and put it on which resulted in success! Power steering works 100% now. Guess it's on to the next "to do" item. Thanks for everyones input!
