only could find a 1985 d150 in u pull it. so problem is which may not be a problem and i strongly doubt it is .. may only be a color variation between years
i have 8 wires on each .. both years had same style column and everything matches except the colors of the wires and the pins. on the 85 they have rounded pins and on the 87 they have squared pins or maybe i have that reversed .
the question is
if i port these wires in the same order into the proper connector will it work right or am i going to burn out my harness or worse? if anyone has wiring diagrams for both models I would appreciate the help here.. i had little problem getting the turn signal out but the connectors do not match up so what i want to do is splice the wires into the correct connector and hope this will work.. thanks in advance

 

In my manual they split out typical year wiring diagrams. They lump 85-88 together as a typical group. I would assume from that, at least for the moment that they have a very similar wiring installed. Disregarding the square or round connector for a second. Does the gauge of the wires in each plug appear to be the same? If you find mismatched gauges that tells you they are not lined up in the same order..

 

On my 87 the replacement turn switch had a different shaped connector on it.
Instead of cutting into and splicing it all I made short adaptors 2 or 3 inches long with some wire and connectors to fit each end.
Been working for over 10 years.

 

when i looked on rock auto is shows that some have square pins and some have round ones. as far as i know the turn signal wires would most likely be the same all the way up until they switched to using the multi function turn signal.

 

thank you for your answer SEAL and yes the gauge appears to be the same and both have 8 wires so i will assume that the round pins and square pins don't really matter and I will plug the wires in together and clamp them up and tie with tape i don't care what it looks like so long as it works properly after all it is hidden under the dash..

 

charlie1935: fortunately i had difficulty removing the one from my sisters truck so i had to cut it off and managed to cut off about 2 inches of wire on the connector i will just plug them in and secure with tape or plastic pull tabs and make life easier.. thank you for your answer very helpful..

 

crazzywolfie thank you after reviewing the answers here i think we have a fit .. with some slight modification and she will have a working turn signal.. I will post sometime this weekend and confirm this.. then the light bulb issue which the sockets are so rusted I don't want to replace any wires or sockets so i am gonna have to sand them out with care to get he bulbs to fit back in the sockets.. honestly appears to be the original turn signal bulbs.. why don't they sel use bulbs that last 20 years if they make one that will last for 50?? just amazing.. what we have to go through for someone to make a buck off us..

 

the coloring is slightly different... so what just line them up as close to the original colors?? not sure this will work but i will try.. i don't want to trace a wire thru the harness.. really..

 

alright had this together and thought it was ready to get inspected and on the way there the dash and parking lights went out so had to park it yet again.. i checked the fuses and didnt appear to have any blown but found later i was wrong and maybe went and rewired the turn signal switch for no apparent reason..
well anyway i had to replace a parking light lamp socket as the original one was way too rusty to do anything with .. 3 wire.. well no diagram as to how to connect them and i tried every combination possible and still can not get the turn signal to work with solid parking lights on.. what i do get is no parking lights on and turn signals that work.. is this a turn signal switch which was pulled off a 85 d150 that is screwing me up here I need to get this truck inspected asap.. is already 3 months pasted due and well time is running short here as winter is approaching fast... any help.. diagrams of both trucks would be greatly appreciated if no one has any answers.. thanks much.

 

on my trucks i just cut the old light sockets off. turned the lights on one by one and test for voltage with a voltage meter. if you can you should just buy new light sockets. i bought some new ones for my truck for about $4 each. you could have all new light sockets for about $24. just make sure to grease everything and they should last.
