A/C questions 83 ram
I had an ac compressor blow the back seal, so I knew a guy with an 85 ramcharger in a lot and I took the compressor from it and strapped it on, with a new expansion valve and a new receiver dryer and new gaskets, I did not however evacuate the system, it's full of free on and when use the ac the compressor will first go on for about 8 - 15 seconds and shut off when. I first tart it, when going down the road it will cycle for 8 seconds on and 15 seconds off and from looking atother 1 st gen rams it not cycling long enough , and it's not blowing as cold as it should, it has 134 a free on in it because I haven t had the time to get r 12 yet, my old one had 12 and it blew a little colder than this one, im wondering if when I put r 12 in it and get the air in the system sucked out, then will it cycle correctly?, or what else could cause this problem?, thank you.
The AC system should be drained, cleaned, and evacuated before filling with R12, the proper charge of R12 compatible oil and a new non contaminated receiver drier. R134 is not compatible with our systems including the oil used in our systems.
The case tractor dealer here in town sells what they call freeze 12 it's not exactly the same but its darn close, and for getting an evac the guy in town would do it without the new receiver drier if chosen that way the drier I have is meant for both 134 and 12 it should work either way, but if the receiver drier can't be cleaned of oil and free on with the evac then ill replace it, I have heard that bad things can happen if the two free on oils mix, the thing is is I'm trying to save the most money, but I want it to be right also.
If I were to do this and put that freeze 12 in, then what all would have to be cleaned or done except a new receiver drier, but like I said when I put the expansions valve, receiver drier and the used ac compressor in, I did not have in sucked to get the air out of it, and I'm wandering if anyone has this r 12 system and have sucked out the air and put in 134 instead if it performs better and how much?
Freeze 12 was discontinued last year. There may still be some out there but they don't make it any more. The new refrigerant is Enviro Safe ES-12a and Industrial 12a. This new refrigerant is compatible with both R12 and R134a systems. It is better, lighter, colder, and cheaper. I would not allow anyone to do the job without using the newer refrigerant.
They will evacuate the entire system and add a cleaner to the system. The cleaner will be pumped throughout the whole system and then drained. The system will then be evacuated again and the appropriate oil will be added then the new style freon will be added to the proper level.

Where can I get the new refrigerant es12 a? If its better and cheaper than most definitely ill go with it, unfortunately the case dealer did tell me it wasn't being made anymore, but they had a stock of 100 cans for $12 dollars a piece and I was going to buy a case to last me for awhile, but know knowing about this new refrigerant is great, thanks for the help, since il have to replace the drier, is their anything else I will have to replace, and while I'm at it any o rings or gaskets you recommend should be changed? As far as I could tell there wasn't any leaks after new expansions valve, drier and compressor gaskets, my last question is which out of 12 and 134 freeon has bigger molecules?, and which has bigger molecules between r12, 134a and the ne ES-12a?, thanks again for all your help
The molecule size for ES12a is larger than R12 or 134a. You might check with the manufacturer if the following info is not enough. You will have to put 134a adaptors on the 2 system access fittings to use the ES12a. 12 cans for $59.00
Here is some info on ES12a and a source to buy everything you need.
