2.25" or 2.5" pipe from the headers is not bad, but if you are going to go to a single pipe, then where they merge to one pipe you should go to a 3" pipe. For the price, glasspacks are the cheapest and are not really that bad. It is all up to what you want, like and can afford. If you can afford it dual exhaust is better than single. If you look on ebay there are some companies that have flowmaster copies that are not bad sounding and are cheap compared to flowmasters. There is one that is dual inlet and dual outlet that a guy in my town has that sound good.He has 2.5" pipe to it and turned it out in front of his rear tires with 2.25" pipes. And yes both pipes come out on the same side of the truck, the pass side. The ebay company name is Ashland Muffler House. Here is a link to the muffler. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Performance-50-series-2-chamber-2-5-dual-dual-out-muffler-USA-Made-725554-/251256441399?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item3a800d0a37

I have 3in collectors, so why would I want to constrict the flow down? I'm asking because I just dont know. I was just thinking of doing 2 dual 3in pipes out the back. I'm not too concerned about sound.

Dual 3 in pipes is WAY too much for a 318. That's almost too much for a big block.

When you say to much, to much what? What function does the exhaust serve except to get gas out from under your car? I have no idea so I would like to learn this stuff.

It is too large of a pipe for the amount of exhaust gas the 318 will chunk out.
All engines need SOME back pressure to work properly, and with that much pipe, the 318 won't have enough. A dual 2.25in into a single 3in wouldn't be bad though, shoot, all Rams that have a custom single exhaust have it and it works great.

If I just go straight pipes with no mufflers, is it cheaper to just run 2 true duels, or to combine them into a single?

Well, to run a large single you'll need to fab up a y-pipe. Or you may be able to buy one.

True duals would be easier, but you'll need to research pipe size reletive to the amount of power you'll be cranking out.

My 76 has 2.5in true duals and it works well, but I also have a big block.

Just doing a quick and dirty search online, it seems like 2 1/4" is about as big as I can go with the horsepower I think my truck will put out. I'll keep digging, and see if I can find something more definite.
