Default Hello! New 1st Gen Owner Here with some questions.

I recently bought this 89' Dodge D-100, it is the first car I have ever owned. It has the v-6, 5 speed on the floor, 2wd, and short bed.

here are the problems I am having:

1.the brake and abs lights are always on:

2. these side view mirrors are simply terrible, Where could I find OEM or good after market replacements?

3.The windshield washer does not do any thing, so I figured it was the little pump so what size is this nut in the reservoir?

4.the tailgate does not open at all, the handle moves but the gate itself does not budge.

Any help is truly appreciated!

Thanks!

1. if both those lights are staying on you may want to check all the brake line. you may have a leaking line if they stay on.
2. those are oe mirrors. just they have a tendancy of rusting like they have on your truck. you could get some mirrors off another ram but you may want to take measurements since you will have to drill some new holes.
3. do you hear the pump kick on? with how much fluid is in the container in the picture it will not work.
4. plastic clips in the tailgate most likely have broke and let the rods fall out. you should be able to get the clips in the help section at the part store

check your brake fluid level too. On the mirrors, I hate those little things, but also hate the west coast Jrs since they are so noisy. Try to get a set of stock mirrors off of a 1990 91 truck like mine, they are PERFECT. They are twice the size of those on your truck and smaller than a huge west coast mirror set up so many people here seem to like.

On the tailgate you have those 2 metal things inside to push up to open the tailgate before the outside handle

but using those to open the tailgate gets annoying especially in the winter time. you can get new clips for less than $5 or you could redneck repair it like me. as long as the handle works.

check to see if you have a ballast resistor. if it does get two, put them in the glove box. the first time it fails to start, take one out of the glove box, and put it on. you dont have to bolt it on just let it hang.

it should not have a ballast resister since by 89 all the trucks were running throttle body injection.

Okay, So the windshield washer pump is bad; filled the reservoir and it still did not work, found that it was getting power but not pumping.

Is this the correct part?:

Looked at the tailgate and one of the plastic clips are indeed broken, the three screws holding the handle assembly are quite rusty on my truck so I am going to let them soak in some PB so I can attempt to get them loose.

I am still not sure about the abs and brake lights, I have not yet found any leaking lines. Could it be a bad sensor or wire to a sensor?

A 4x10 speaker goes in this hole on the top of the dash correct?
