what size carb does it have? i am guess someone has over carbed it. i know with my auto transmission trucks i don't see any real speed until i hit 30-40km/h in first gear.

pops and cracks when letting of the gas could be timing or miss adjusted carb. edelbrock carbs can be a bit complicated in choosing how it need to be tuned for your application.

How do I figure out what size carb it has?

Is tuning a carb something I can do myself easily?

I remember the PO saying the timing had been set on it. Because he gave me the tool you use to set the timing with.

to find out what size your carb is, look at the left bottom of the carb base right above where it bolts to the intake and there should be some numbers. write them down and then go to edelbrocks web site and look up that number.
for tuning your carb here is a video from edelbrock.
now then if you know how to drive a straight drive, a stock straight drive will out run and perform a stock automatic hands down every time. car and driver has done test to prove this.
now, if you want to take off fast and go fast you need to hammer it to the floor when you take off and shift at around 4000-4500/5000 top rpms. now this is not good for mpgs and I would not drive this way all the time. I would take off and only use half paddle and shift at about 3000 rpms for my normal driving. just farting around, I would easy into it and shift at about 2000 rpms.
now, that is just what I have to say. everyone else has there on view about this. some may know what they are talking about more than others and some just want to tell you how they drive there stock trucks. your truck is not stock. you just need to learn how your truck runs the best for you is the main thing and drive it that way or the way you want to. it is your truck and if something brakes on it you are the one that has to pay to fix it not anyone else.
if I can help you in anyway to understand anything about performance and tuning for your truck I will try if you want it. just send me a message.

The number stamped on my edelbrock carb is 1406 8232. I think it is an "economy" type carb from them. Is this an appropriate sized carb for this truck?

I have a random question. My truck has a pop up sun roof on it. The pop up[ latch on it works in that it allows me to open it and I can pop up the sun roof. But it doesn't stay up. It I think is old and worn out, unless there is some way to lock it open that I don't know about????? So the sun rook just goes right back down instantly. Is there any sneaky easy way to fix this?

according to the edelbrock website it is Calibrated 2% leaner than 1405 carb but it is still a 600cfm carb. it is a bit big for a 318.

bad news. I guess every question I had was basically pointless.

Wall-E just came back from the mechanic just now. He was in the shop to get his insurance safety inspection done. I thought he would pass with flying colors.

He failed completely.

My mechanic informed me he had been in an accident at some point in the past. He has buckled and cracked front frame rails. Therefore they would not pass him at all.

He also happens to have a rotten drivers side floor pan, leaking power steering pump, rear leaf spring broken, both upper control arm bushings worn out.

The cops also pulled the mechanic over on his test drive in regards to the noise from the exhaust lol.

So now I'm stuck with lost money sunk into this truck, no transportation, and don't know how to sell this thing to get rid of it.

I have no idea what to do. The mechanic told me according to our laws here the seller didn't have to tell me about the damage.

maybe you could find another truck to swap the good parts onto or you could possibly part the thing out or just sell it as a project. i don't see why you would not be able to get $1000 for it plus you could sell the spare parts separate. usually just a running, driving truck would go for about $1000 here. now if you want something roadworthy you usually pay about $1500+.

If you are in a bind, find a mechanic with a better welder. A good collision shop MAY be able to fix you up without pulling the front clip. None of the other problems are a real big deal individually, but all together that just sucks, as it equates to a few hundred bucks to "maybe" pass your truck. Sorry, man. Hopefully you can either find somebody willing to do all the work for you, or you can easily sell it.

would any of the parts swap right onto a 73 buick riviera with a 455ci? Or not even close? I'm guessing not even close, not even the rims and stuff. But that is my car I have in my backyard, that has been sitting forever. Just brain storming, thought maybe I could press her into action.
