Just a guess but do you mean the tilt mart is loose? If so the mechanism is probably worn which is why I personally never really liked tilt steering.

If it is the tilt-part it is a simple matter of removing the upper section of the column, tightening 4 screws (Torx) and re-assemble it.

I recommend that you get a tool for removing the steering lock plate/bearing spring preload retainer - I managed without but it wasnt funny. Get a steering wheel puller too. You'll only be able to tighten the two lower screws without ripping the entire column apart but that has been enough for me.

If you google tilt steering column fix you'll find a guide at a chevy forum (our columns are GM) with pics. Its not tricky, will take you about an hour.

My bolts werent torx but some other kind but the forum how-to stated which one and it was correct for me.
