Default 82 short box engine swap idea

I've looked but I haven't found any resources, but I like to swap 5.7 hemi in this thing. Anyone have any resources regarding this? It's currently a 318 auto qwith a bad tranny that I picked up for 500 bucks.

Wll the new hemi even fit?iam sure someone has done this before.a. Just wondering if anyone has any resources on this topic. I wouldn't mind putting a 383 or something other than the 318 but the hemi is an attractive proposition. I mean, they can fit them in wranglers, surely they will fi t in this truck.

Your thoughts and opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Ps. sorry for th e typos, typing this on my iPad.

sure you can put one in. just swapping a new hemi into a old truck is usually just more expensive and time consuming than swapping in a fuel injected magnum.

This is true and also something I have bentos sin g ar ound in my mind - however besides cost, I'm not sure I now th e benefits of a anew new hemi and the older magnums. Seems like at that point I may as well put this 440 in it that I have sitting in this Chrysler New Yorker.

Basically I'm looking for more efficient power. If I want 10-12mpg I'll stick with. My FE Powered 4x4.

Surely someone. Done a right up on this sort of swap... T hey do it to they jeeps instead of the magnums so why not a short box dodge?

Stupid iPad and its autocorrect

just swapping in a fuel injected 318 and keeping it fuel injected will gain you about 90hp. it is also a fairly easy swap that is pretty much bolt in. since you need a transmission this would be a good time to look for a 92-95 truck with overdrive transmission. should help you get a bit better gas mileage.

you wouldn't happen to have any reference material for sis swap? Thryarealwaysgetting these in at the yard, just need to know everything's that is needed for the swap. Any right ups anyawhere? Seems to be a lack of information in this regard, or I'm looking in the wrong spot.

Thanks for your information

you will need the computer/under the hood wiring harness, transmission and engine. the wiring will be the hardest part but not impossible. someone just swap a fuel injected 5.9 into his 78 power wagon not that long ago.

As always, its helpful to have a donor truck. For the hemi swap in newer jeeps, they are already designed with a similar architecture in mind. The LA motors and magnums are very similar compared to the wildly different new hemi. The extra money spent on getting the new hemi working could instead be spent warming up a magnum motor as well.

I've seen someone swap a ls1 and 4l60e in to a 88 ram. Ran a 14 sec 1/4. Added a 3600 rpm stall and a 75 shot of nitrous and ran a 12.95 while still getting 18 mpg at 70. I'm sure a hemi swap would be just as easy and could make more power as they are already rated at over 400 hp

I think it would be expensive, mostly impractical and totally awesome if you did it. If you were just looking for horsepower though I think an easier and more practical swap would be the 440.

If you do go the Hemi route, you will need to carefully document it and post it and I can guarantee you will have a large following.
