Default 2nd Gen EFI in a 1st Gen

I thought about bringing an old thread from a couple of months ago back to life, but too many of the details have changed since then. So, here we have part II. Tommorow morning, I will be picking up a 5.9 from a 1994, complete with harness, PCM and all accessories. The EFI portion of it, and eventually the whole engine will be going into my '78 Power Wagon. I currently have a 5.2 Magnum that is carb'd. I have a few questions, so hang with me...

1) Will the 5.9 PCM supply the correct pulse width to the injectors to make my 5.2 run smoothly, or do I need a 5.2 PCM?

2) My PCM is from an automatic trans. truck. I have a manual.
A- Will the computer run the engine even though it doesnt "see" the transmission or
B- Can my PCM be re-flashed to delete the auto trans configuration?

3) I want to keep my stock gas tank as-is. Is there an inexpensive, inline fuel pump that self regulates to appx 49 psi? (also double checking to see if that is the correct PSI I should be running.)

4) Has anyone built this type of system before and if so, any tips?

5) I understand that the pre 95's require a return fuel line? Double checking that as well.

6) I have detailed diagrams and schematics from a '95. Is that all the same gear as the '94? Same info apply?

Thanks in advance guys, Scooter.

lol
You never asked if the PCM could be reflashed for transmission in your 1st gen thread.

Yeah, more than likely. But remember what I said? Arm, leg, first born.

Ha, ha... Good catch. My computer freaked out when I copied and pasted, so I had to fill in the blanks. Its probably not exactly like the first one.

Fortunatly, I have a good buddy in Colorado that owns a Carquest. He reflashes PCMs. Im sure he will hook me up in that department.

The computer will run your setup just fine. '94-'95 are the same. They actually require 39 psi of fuel pressure though, the obd2 variants (96+) are the 49psi systems.

Thanks Wombat, I wouldve been running the fuel a little too heavy. Now that I know that the 94-95 are the same, I do believe I will start on my wire harness thin-down. If anyone has been down that road before, I sure would appreciate some insight.

I will eventually, but I dont know much about this engine. I want to tear into it and see what it looks like. Maybe hone, re-ring and new bearings. Swap in my 5.2 cam and call it good. Maybe gasket match the heads, lap the valves and put in new valve seals while its apart.

Anyone know if I should be running a wide band or narrow band O2? Seems like Narrow came in the earlier/simpler EFI systems and may be the route I want to go. Anyone agree?

All factory O2 sensors are narrow band.
