Did a lot of searching. But here goes my Dlima. Bought an 1978 RV 440/727trans, yoke drive. Its replacing a 1987 slant6/904 spline drive. The 727 rv tranny is much shorter. Has anyone gone thru this before?

? Gone through what exactly? Are you talking about the drive shaft not being the correct length? The cross-member in the wrong place? More details please.
Thanks sls001 for the reply. Forgive some of my spelling errors "swop". Just finish pulling the s6. And I do not have a clue on attaching the tranny. Motor mounts should be avilable from my online research. I will need vacuum and electrical diagram. That I thing I can find online too.
The s6 came out since it had a hole in the block. Already had a 440/727RV combo. I am a fluid power mechanic and not an auto mechanic. Vacuum for brakes, timing advance, and maybe tranny shifting. I am all open to learning from those who are helpful.
I don't think your electrical system will be much different, if at all, between the two. You still only have a starter, coil, and alternator. Three wires will start that engine. Being as neither one of your transmissions are electronically controlled, that wont be an issue either. If you found conversion engine mounts, you may want to buy them, unless you are handy with a welder. Also, I believe the trans mounts are in a different spot. I think the easiest way to fix that is to move the trans crossmember. Its just held in with a couple bolts on each side. Unbolt it, bolt it to the trans, then use the bolt holes in the crossmember as a template to mark new holes to poke in your frame. Then bolt her up. You will likely need to have a custom driveshaft made. That can usually be done for under $200.
