Default Quits when very cold

In this very cold weather we're having, my son's 1988 dodge W150 will start, run alittle, then start reving up and down and then will quit. It will start right back up however. Once it gets good and warm it's fine. Any thoughts?

my 75 used to have a big idling problem even on warmer days.. it wouldn't stay running at all till the truck got hot.. i would check your choke.. i think 88 its pretty close to the same.. make sure the pull off and the choke itself works. then after that i would adjust the carb.. maybe just turn the idle up a bit. i did those things on mine and now it idles right when i start it even on really cold days.

btw on my truck the choke pull off wasn't working, so when i got the new choke the choke would be on most of the time. i had to move the vacuum line to a different part of the carb

The choke pull off needs to have full manifold vacuum.
If choke was staying on most of the time you need to adjust your choke.
Here is info on that http://www.slantsix.org/articles/cho...oke-adjust.htm
I would also call these guys http://www.slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12996 and see if they have one for your setup.
I have one on my 86 slant and it makes big difference.

Your right the OP's 88 should be TBI.
I was repling to Ninja about his 75 which is carbed.
Sorry for the confusion.

Yes, it is the Holley throttle body fuel injected model. I'm thinking maybe an O2 sensor.

Maybe try cleaning the idle air control motor if it is revving up and down. Whenever it gets below zero (F) my truck can miss a lot when cold sometimes, and benefits from gentle application of the throttle for a few seconds.

New O2 sensor seems to have solved the problem.
