New member help!!!
Hey guys new guy here, I have a question that hopefully somebody has the answer to. This might be a little drawn out but I wanna make sure you guys have all the details. I have a '90 w150 with the 360 bored .30 over and 318 heads hooked to a 4 speed 727 transmission. I bought the truck in February and in April it started acting up. I parked it and when I went to leave I had no juice so I thought I left the lights on so I had a friend jump me. I didnt make it 2 blocks and I noticed the headlights and instrument cluster light were slowly dimming and eventually lost all power. My uncle came and jumped me and we decided to try it without my headlights, it worked and I made it home. The next week we tried and tested every possible thing we could think of and nothing worked. I decided to take it to a shop I use when im stumped and theyve had it 13 weeks. First they told me it was a relay, then a diode, and finally 2 months ago they told me the brain is the problem. Since then theyve been trying to find the right brain (or at least thats what they say theyre trying to do) because an automatic brain wont work with my manual transmission. So my question is will an automatic brain work with my manual transmission? My transmission is hydraulic anyway so I dont see why it wouldnt but I wanna be 100% sure before I waste the money on a brain that wont work. Cant wait to hear what you guys think.

The 4 speed auto trans is known as A518/46rh not 727, 727 was 3 speed auto only.
Not sure which 4 speed manual transmissions were used.
Rockauto has computer for auto and manual trans all day long.

I'd find a better shop, most parts stores have the computer. I doubt it will fix the problem though, the computer on a '90 doesn't control the alternator (you have a voltage issue). So unless the computer has a dead short internal drawing a ton of current (and if it did would the truck run?) I'd check battery, and alternator if those are good check wiring
If their telling you you need a new computer because the volatge regulator is bad, there is a way to wire in a external regulator.

It's a 4 speed manual transmission just like I said in my original post. The guy told me it is a 727 but not 100%.
I had the battery and alternator checked at every autozone, advance auto, napa, and o'reillys in town and every single test came back fine.

Who ever told you it was a 727 doesn't know what they are talking about.
727 is an automatic trans and was only available as a 3 speed trans.
Thats why i asked if it was manual or automatic.
See here everything you ever wanted to know about the 727 http://www.allpar.com/mopar/torqueflite.html

Ok thanks bud. The shop has had the truck more than I have since I've owned it so I haven't had time to go through it and see exactly what I have. So will a brain for an automatic work? I don't remember seeing that answer in anybody's post.
