ok all so i have read a pretty healthy amount about it being good to retard the stock cam 4 degrees. my question is when you do this do you adjust your ignition timing any? that is all

You will loose bottom end performance retarding your cam.

 

thanks for the info i went back together as it was when i took everything apart. it was running good and for whatever reason the distributor has started failing now which is awesome. it has a loose wire connection somewhere. now the question is to try and fix it or upgrade to something like this ?

 

That's no upgrade this is...


The pick up in your distributor may be going bad that's no need for a new distributor.

 

jigle the wires in distributor and works again for a while would it just be the pick up??

 

why wouldn't HEI be an upgrade. everything i see = stronger spark/ better. but i don'r know please feel free to educate me

 

The hei is just a replacement, Less wires no ballast etc. If you get the msd6a you will notice a difference. At least i did when i replaced the stock ignition(also used with a accel super coil). You still need the stock distributor and pick up then just wire up the msd box. It supplies (6) sparks every time if fires, Hence the name 6A. But you need to check things out before throwing parts at it. Replace the pick up and see if that solves your issue.

 

ok so I think i got it running right again i think it was very late last night when i found the bad ground. i rewired the distributor. it is far from stock but i have no idea what it is and don't know if i can add the 6a to it. but like i said got good fire now so we will wait and see. changed coil to MSD's coil which does make more power supposedly on its own so we will see how this set up works. thanks for the help.
