Default Help! Dana 44 axle hub question. Springs or no springs...

I have a 87 w150, 318 with 727 trans and cad front axle. I recently started changing wheel bearings and front brakes. While doing some searching online, I noticed some Dana 44 axles I have seen Gabe large springs inside the hubs. Mine however did not. Did they use those springs on all Dana 44 axles and mine are missing? or am I just over thinking? I read one article which stated they used them til the mid 80’s but does that include my year? This truck is all stock as far as I can tell. Please help me out guys. Thanks

If things work the way they are supposed to, that's all that really matters. Springs or not may just depend on the manufacturer of the hubs.....

i don't remember there being any springs in the hub when i took mine apart. does your truck have locking hubs? i am guessing you are looking at pictures of trucks with locking hubs
