'93 W-150 manual window regulator issue
I finally had my driver's side window regulator replaced the only way possible, I got a used door that had an intact manual regulator. My old one was stripped, so after several years of having my window glass held up by a door stop crammed between glass and panel, I was thrilled to be able to raise and lower the window with the crank.... but here's the issue;
The window crank "unwinds" when I hit a bump. The window doesn't fall, it just slowly lowers. There's a coil spring which I assume is supposed to hold the window in the full upright position, but it seems to be lacking the appropriate tension.
I had my mechanic swap out the door and, although he is knowledgeable about a great many things, this issue seems to elude him.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

so he swapped the entire door? i don't know if there is much that can be done about it. i have a similar issue with my 93. it is almost like once the mechanism start becoming loose there is not a lot that can be done about it. the windows on the newer first gens always seem to move smoother no matter what compared to the older ones.
You may be able to rewind the spring, to give it a bit more tension...... that can be tricky though, not to mention hazardous to your health.... Just have to look at how out outer end is secured, and find a way to wrap it another time around.
Thanks for your response Crazzywolfie. Seems like you might have nailed it, they just get sloppy. I actually watched the window crank slowly turning as I drove...
Guess it's back to the door stop jammed in the frame against the glass!
Replaced door for other issues as well.... several years ago my son dumped the truck on it's driver's side and the door had some issues...the whole side had some issues actually! Dodge truck is a whole lot bigger than the Acura Integra he drove at the time.
Again, my thanks!

Thanks, HeyYou, for responding. Yes, I've heard horror stories about springs gone wild.... I might resort to taking it to a "professional".
My mechanic is one heck of a nice guy who, like myself, is getting a little older and less inclined to go looking to acquire an education on a repair he's not wanting to do in the first place... can't fault him for that. He's done amazing work rebuilding the rear end and many other fixes.. He can troubleshoot electrical problems and find solutions, fix it, and charge me $20 plus dinner. Can't beat that with a stick! So I'll cut him some slack and have him work on the parts he wants to...screw the rest!
......and he won't be screwing no coil spring!
Thanks again,
TommyGirl

i am pretty sure the coil in these things can't be wound anymore than they are. if you still got the old door and the spring was working good in it you could maybe try swapping it into the new door. if that doesn't work i don't know if there is much you can to. if you torches you might be able to shorten the spring .5" or something like that or you could maybe try shimming the spring but no real easy fix to the problem. essentially the higher the window the less tension is on the spring and the lower the window the more tension is put on the spring which is what help make rolling the window up easier.
