what sensor are you referring to? i don't think there are any sensor on any of the 1st gen dodge air cleaners other than the old lean burn system that was used on some trucks. just make sure to plug any vacuum lines you disconnect

 

Old school cold air intake....flip the lid over on the air cleaner...

 

that trick only works on some first gens. it don't work on ones like my 89 with the plastic filter housing but would work on my 93 which as the steel one. it is proven to help the engine breath better tho.

 

correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't it just suck in the hot air from the engine bay?? It does breath better, and adds the old school wide open throttle 4 barrel sound. Make sure you don't have the hood insulation, could get sucked in.

 

there is not much hot air under the hood especially if you are moving. even if you did have the hood insulation worst case scenario is it hits the air filter. flipping the lid if possible would definitely help it make the most power possible but that is if it has a steel air cleaner and not the plastic one like what is used on pretty much every 89-91 that i have seen/owned.

 

salad bowl wins, hands down lol. I love engine masters. Down draft works the best. My 91 has the steel housing. Was a 318, tbi.

 

my 91 had a plastic air filter housing and both 89's that i have had also had plastic air cleaner housings. maybe 91 was they year they started using the steel ones again since my 93 has one but i think the 88-91.5 might have came with plastic air cleaners that can't be flipped.

 

that's possible, 91 is the newest gen 1 I've owned. Had an 85 ramcharger, and an 86 d250 both 318s steel air cleaners........ I haven't seen those under hood lights in years!!!! They were nice when they worked, not very bright though. I skipped right over the gen 2 and got my gen 3, mileage, price were right. I remember chasing fuel issues on my 86, checked all wiring, ended up being the lobe on the fuel pump centric on the end of the cam shaft wore down, would give a full stroke on the pump. Threw in an electric pump, ran like a champ for having over 200,000 miles. Burned a quart of oil a week. I never changed the oil, just the filter every 3,000 miles, lol. Ended up losing the pump seal and fried the 727.

hahaha my 89 has one and so did the 89 in that pic. that light worked perfect still but then again that truck was a low mileage truck. only 44k miles and super clean. the one on my 89RC works on and off.
