Default Hello! 82 Ram 360 4spd

Long time stalker, had many-a-Ram, just gonna be picking up a brand new 1982 Ram 360 4 speed manual. (4WD) (owner claims full driveline rebuild 8k ago)

my question is, assuming it’s a granny tranny, what are some desirable tranny and driveline builds for these? Looking more-so for mileage and MAYBE a small amount of mud play. I know no matter what she will be a pig but those first gens are way too cool to pass up.
Also, aftermarket air conditioning??

NV4500? (five speed with o/d) Should bolt right up. Not sure about the t-case though..... don't know if the bolt pattern/spline count changed back there..... maybe a NV241 t-case to go with it?

Welcome to DF!

nice truck

there is likely no cheap way do what you want and there is so many options. you could fuel inject it but that would likely cost about $1200. you could also go for trying to find a 93 with a 360 so you can get fuel injection and a 5.9 magnum. then you will get more power and likely a bit better fuel mileage since fuel injection is more efficient than carb. a 93 parts truck would also likely have the right transfer case needed to bolt to a nv4500 if you decided to swap to one of those in eventually.

Well I just got it home now, I think right now I’m gonna focus on interior. It stalls when you floor it on the highway, (wathers carb?) but no worry. It ran great besides that for a 300 mile test drive.
What I want to know, how to hush the cab, door window sills are bent out causing lots of wind noise, no installed ac from factory, heater fan doesn’t work, no holes for speakers in door panels.

Whats the cheapest or coolest(expensive) way to add comfort control, (like a modern control unit like a 94-2018) don’t care, just more modern. I already decided on putting a double din lcd radio in the spot where the 4wd indicator lights are, but it would be nice to have door panels that will hold speakers.

HOW TO I CUSTOMIZE THE CRAP OUT OF THE INTERIOR ON THIS THING!
for now I want to focus on custom dash clusters, adding AC, making a reasonably quieter cab when the windows are up, heat and cold out the wazoo, and hopefully (when budget permits but it’s a long shot) bucket seats with a center console, short throw shifter. But for now, sound, ac, gauges, climate control. WHO HERE KNOWS HOW?!

you should probably get it running good first. after a 300 mile trip if it still wants to stall when you punch it there definitely something up with the carb.

before throwing too much at the interior you may want to get a a/c heater box and the heater controls/possibly a interior wiring harness. installing a/c in a non a/c truck is a pretty big job since the wiring harness is usually quite different. the non a/c trucks usually got a cheap base harness with as little optional wiring as possible where the a/c ones usually came wired for nearly everything whether they had it or not.

sounds like the truck probably needs all new door seals. they make complete kits that you can order.

as far as installing speakers in the doors is as easy as cutting a hole in metal. most speakers usually come with a template to mark things out. some of the trucks also came with speakers in the corners above the seat belt mechanism.

yup I figured something up with it. I just started refraining from punching it. I’ll look around for a donor truck for the wiring harness for the ac. I found some aftermarket kits but I think I might be better off getting a donor kit and just buying a new evaporator and heater core just for the “new” factor. What’s the best way to soundproof a reg cab? Is there certain stuff I should use in doors, floor, firewall, and etc?

i don't think there is really any aftermarket a/c kits for these trucks. these trucks were pretty unpopular so getting stock a/c parts at one point would have been easy. now that they are starting to become a bit more popular and a bit less common parts are getting a bit harder to find.

you can use dynamat or whatever you want but you may want to make sure the cab floor is solid before trying to sound proof it. it was pretty common for the floors to rust out.
