Just put a regulator on it, to reduce fuel pressure to what the carb wants, and call it a day.

i think it would really depend on why you are swapping to carb. TBI is pretty simple and reliable compared to carb. even if it is going to be a hot rod i would recommend an aftermarket TBI setup. when carbs are working good they are ok but with how cheap aftermarket TBI setups are you are almost better off to go with one especially since your truck is already setup for it. they almost cost about twice what a new carb cost but usually get you better reliability and more consistent power since it is always learning and self tuning. short box tanks and long box tanks of the same year should be the same but i would almost shop for a 91-93 fuel tank if you are shopping since you can still get sending unit for them. 88-90 tanks are unique and have a 3 year only sending unit that is a nightmare to find if you ever need one.

thanks for fast response ! to answer why I don't just drop a sending unit in. I for got to mention need new tank cause somebody drilled a hole in bottom of this tank and haven't found a adequate way to patch. for the tbi answer I got this pickup with a blown computer plus blown motor .I had a 79 d300 duelly with 360 4 barrel only 45000 miles on engine sitting in pasture .got it all ready to rebuild with all parts already. daughter/father rebuild having a great time doing this with her! its been about a year since I been on site due to other commitments getting done. now have time to again to get this project complete before her 16th birthday in 9 months wish me luck and bloody knuckles !! thanks again for helping us out mopar rules!!!!!

usually a clean drilled whole is pretty easy to have plastic welded but if you have a 80's carb tank it should work. the sending unit is in a bit different location and they are usually a bit smaller by 2 gallons but the filler whole and the bumps in the tank should be in the exact same locations. i don't know if a 70's truck would have the same tank as they used in the 80's

a carb sending unit is not the same. you would be best to reuse the stock sending unit and just remove the fuel pump and run the fuel line to the bottom of the sending unit and add a strainer to keep it from sucking up any garbage.

Or use the TBI fuel pump, and a three-port regulator. (one port is fuel return.)

you would also need another oil pressure switch if you did that plus if the fuel pump hasn't been replaced it is bound to start dying soon if it hasn't already. the better and cheaper way would be to just run a line to the bottom of the tank or hook up to the fuel tank drain port and run that to the mechanical fuel pump.
