Default Transfer case swap

I have an old beat up 1993 W250 360, 5 speed manual. I think the chain in the transfer case is jumping cogs. I don't want to spend a lot of money but would like to get the 4X4 working solid again.

I have a lead on a 1987 Ramcharger with 318, automatic. Will that transfer case bolt up to my 5 speed and connect to the drivelines? How about the speedometer. I think the 93 is electronic. Not a big deal as I could run the GPS for speed and odometer.

Related question could the engagement mechanism in the transfer case be jumping instead of the chain. I ask because it doesn't seem to jump in Reverse.

I have already replaced the axle and the vacuum motor and vacuum switch.

Replace the chain. Cheaper, easier, and solves the problem for another couple hundred thousand miles.

The '87 probably has an NP208.
The '93 has an NP241D.

Not a direct swap. Not an upgrade.

I do drivetrain work professionally. My business name is Mountain Man Customs. I'd be happy to rebuild your 241 for you. I'm in Western MT, shipping for a T-case isn't too bad.
