Well my adventures of a Magnum swap, carb setup are finally drawing to a close............ After 18 months lol. A kinked rubber line I used to link the sending unit to the steel pick up tube would be a good reason it wasn't getting gas. So a re design, and I also put the strainer on and it's finally running. Think I might have to step up to a slightly bigger pump but it's a beast. Now if I could only get this dang speedometer to work. New vss, swapped out the speedometer unit with a known working one with new gears. Are these printed circuit boards on the back of the housings know to go bad?? It's the only thing left and I have one to swap with. Thanks hey you for the 360 Magnum, and advice!!!!!! And thanks crazieWolfie for the advice also!!!! If I have any other pull out your hair, bang your head against a wall adventures....... "I'll be back". But I'll be around to lend my knowledge out. Thanks again fellas!!!!

that would do it. no problem. does the voltage gauge work? if so the speedo should be getting power. you may also want to check make sure you have a good ground to the sensor. if it is not the ground that is causing the issue than it could be the wire between the sensor and speedo or maybe a damaged gear inside the transmission.

I'll have to check the ground. I pulled the engine harness out of it completely. I left the coolant sensor, and oil pressure gauges hooked up. I'm running a summit single wire alternator with internal regulator. Every gauge works now since I fixed my gas gauge. I'll almost bet money it's a ground, if it had a ground in the engine harness to the back of the intake. The gear is good, I had swap that over when I put in the reman 46rh. Is it a wire I can cut and ground to the frame?? I can't remember what colors the wires are.

As I recall, the sensor signal wire splits at one point, and runs off the PCM, and cluster. Testing is gonna be fun, because if the wheels ain't turnin', there ain't no signal....... so, BE CAREFUL.

Nice, think I might pull the sensor and run it with a drill with the key on and see what I get. I guess for now my phone with a mph app will work lol. I'm down to the little nit picking stuff now.

Yeah, see if the PCM is getting the correct signal. It wants to know how fast you are going, for a variety of reasons.

the signal wire only runs to the pcm for cruise control.it is not needed otherwise. the electric speedo on these old trucks are just as simple as the gas gauge. power to the gauge and a wire ran to the sensor and 1 wire from the sensor to ground.

I'll check the wires, I have a feeling it was one of the grounds i got rid of at the back of the intake when I eliminated the harness.

if you removed a whole bunch of wiring you may have removed it also but it should be pretty easy to find. it should still be at the connector on the passenger side of the engine by the firewall along with the overdrive and neutral safety switch wiring.

Continuation of my Magnum swap adventures.
I looked at the wires on the vss, white with orange stripe, and black with lite blue stripe. Looked in the trusty haynes manual (cough cough) found my wires. White with orange to pcm and splits off to the cluster. Found my black with lite blue followed it to the temp sensor, map sensor, distributor, idle motor, and tps........ Grounded it with a jumper, drive down the road................ And I now have a working speedometer. It's wonderful. Did this after I installed a bigger fuel pump, the ol' Holley mighty mite couldn't keep up. Got a Carter pump with 7psi max. Runs right at 5.5 psi. Keeps up so far ran out of road so I had to let off, lol. Now back to the small things. Wheel stud, rear brake hardware, and spring kit, door panel clips, things of that nature. Fuse block for the stupid fusible links on the driver fender, still has the wire nuts holding everything together from the previous owner, but he put fusible links back in I have to commend him on that lol. Allot of folks just use wire.
