Stock intake manifold? Never seen a 2 barrel Edelbrock carb. Many 4 barrel ones.
those old 318s had a heat passage under the intake, very center port in each head. They were notorious for clogging up solid with carbon, the intake too. Get that cleared out and may help.
You say your carb isn't calibrated Right. Is it in need of a rebuild? If the adjustment is out of whack that will cause all kinds of issues by itself but a dirty carb won't take to adjustment very well. Also what about the tune up? That must be right before you get into the carb. Vacuum leaks?
