Buy from a vendor you trust. Jasper seems to be pretty good, and their warranty support is decent as well. They want the engine installed by a licensed shop though.....

Your local parts store can get you a long block as well.

Various performance parts retailers can get you a motor in pretty much any configuration you are willing to pay for.

There used to be a couple of local shops I'd have my engines rebuilt at. I always liked to have a seasoned block rebuilt. Then again, these were usually engines I knew the history of. I drive by the Jasper plants regularly and have met many of the workers there. I would imagine Mopar Performance (if that name is still used) could sell you a crate engine. The thing about rebuilding, you can match the components to your intended purpose. I usually go with an RV grind on camshafts for street use. Better low end grunt.

Thank you, I live in a small town, not much to choose from, none that I would trust. yes there is the usual auto zone and stuff. I was just hoping to find someone who builds something a little better than stock, as this is my work truck I need something I can change out in a weekend.

Jegs, or summit then. Or, Dodge.... for a factory reman. If you only have a weekend to do it though, I would stick with a stock rebuild, otherwise, you may run into tuning issues. (depending on year of your truck.)

In the past, I've gotten a good running used engine and freshened it up. New timing chain set, high volume oil pump (NOT high pressure), new expansion plugs and so on. Get one around 90K on it and after a refresh, they are usually good for another 100K.
