Hello all - my new to me 1983 D250 automatic has a damaged column shift housing - has anyone removed and replaced one of these lately? Any tips or a quick procedure? Thanks!

Replace the entire column. It's just easier.

It looks like someone forced the column shifter at one point as the section that holds the pin/shift lever has been forced and is widened with some cracking of the pot metal on this column section. Shift lever is floppy, spring must be missing and there is a roll pin that is only through one hole on column section and through shift lever. Does it take long to pull a whole steering column on a Dodge first gen? Have never pulled column on any vehicle in spite of doing alot of other work -thanks

Not really, some electrical connectors, maybe six bolts, and the shaft to the steering box, and the cable feller for the PRNDL. Takes about half an hour to swap it out. (assuming everything comes apart nice..... the shaft tends to 'become one' with the column, and can sometimes be a right pain to get it off. )
