differential pinion oil seal replace
I have a 1989 D100. There is an oil seep from around the pinion shaft oil seal and a want to replace it. After I remove the nut that holds the driveshaft yoke on the pinion shaft, so I can get to the oil seal, when I am reinstalling this nut what torque should I put on the nut. I believe that how tight this nut is torqued effects the pinion position.
This is that special situation where you want to return the pinion nut to the exact same number of turns; and loctite/staking to keep it in place.
Overtightening typically ends up in bearing failure.
I like to switch to a solid pinion spacer for these events. No surprises.

The trick is, to measure how much torque it takes to get the pinion to turn, (wheels and drums off please.) and when you put it back together, tighten the nut such that it requires the same amount of torque to turn the pinion.....
