Died, No Start
Was driving smoothly and all of a sudden died. Cranks but wont start. Sometimes burps out of carb. Sometimes tries to backfire weak so theres compression i assume. Has spark. Has fuel. Since it quit ive replaced the ignition coil, plugs wires cap and rotor, starter and starter relay, ECU/Spark Control Computer/Garbage..., cleaned main negative ground points, checked ignition switch and is good, patched vacuum leaks here and there as i found them, and pickup switch relay as it was trying to cook off under the dash just from cranking to try and start. So far nothing has made any difference. Im aware some of those wouldnt help but replaced as i found other faults. Never heard of the SCC till i did some research. Its a Sep of 85, 1986,D150, 5.2L, 2brl Carb, Automatic trans. The only thing left im working on is the new pickup relay is a little different. Original was terminal 1 2 3 and 5. New one has all 5 and are numbered in a different order. Would i need to ground the spare terminal into something specific? Instead of BLK, GYBK, BLK wires for the three wire harness in any diagrams i can find it has RD, BRN, and BLK. Im assuming my timing chain is still good since i can see the valve train moving when i peek in the oil cap. waiting on a service manual in the mail but until them im out of ideas. Would appreciate any help you guys can offer.

Ive looked for a ballast resistor and cant find it. all the diagrams i see online show it by the bulkhead connector but ive got nothing there but the connector. Assumed it might be another job the ECU took from the ignition system like the gutted distributor. The fusible links felt good but i didnt meter for power through them. ill look thx.

I would remove the lean burn system because of it's multitude of problems. Replace the ignition with mopar electronic ignition kit. Replace the carb and possibly intake with 4bbl. You say it has spark and fuel but may have to much/not enough fuel. Might check the plugs and see what they look like. Have you tried spraying starting fluid in the carb?

ya i fullly intend to replace the system but for now just trying to get it running as this is my only vehicle at the moment. Looks like plenty of fuel goin into the carb. i pulled front 4 plugs and they were a little wet with gas from cranking for awhile. Brake cleaned them and wiped them down then put them back in. I have also sprayed starting fluid in yes.
