Default Fuel tank woes

Hey everyone,

I have searched high and low for a replacement fuel tank for my short bed 1988 W100. We all know the aftermarket is not as kind to us Dodge owners as the other guys. I have an unrepairable plastic fuel tank in my truck. Does anyone here have an actual alternative for my particular truck? I would rather not cut a hole in the bed or chop a new fuel door into the body. At this point I am willing to consider it. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

if yours is that bad could always post on RCC to see if anyone there has a tank that will work and they are willing to part with. there was also a member over there who recently plastic welded his fuel tank and it came out looking pretty good. which engine does the truck have? if it has a 5.9 the fuel tank might be easier to find than if it has the 5.2 or 3.9.

My truck has the 318 (5.2) TBI. I dont think the fuel tanks are engine specific.

if you had the 5.9 it would have still been carbureted in 88. best of luck finding a tank. the 88-93 tanks are just becoming more and more rare.

Did you ever find a tank? If not, I have one for sale located in NC. It came out of the '88 I had but the previous owner took the fuel sender out.

Holley now sells gas tanks for d100 and w150 just ordered my today. --Part # 19-592 - will require a new sending unit probably and fuel pump but it will bolt right up. At this point I would also change the fuel pump since nobody makes a replacement for our 1st gen.

i guess it is good to know but damn that price tag seem pretty high since it seems aimed at people wanting to do the fuel injection thing and the tanks are made of steel and not plastic like the original. definitely does not look like they even sell the parts to use it in a carb setup with mechanical pump. looks like they want you to spend $350 on electic in tank pump plus another $50 for a sending unit.

Yup. the price is up there Crazzywolfie, but after needing to repair my fuel tank every year due to cracking and fuel pump nips - I'm done. Epoxy all over the place now lol!

As an update - if any anyone has a W150 like me, 1981-1993 you will need an extra bracket PN# 870022 - will be available end of January 2023.

i guess it is just my dislike for steel tanks. you are lucky if you get 20 years out of a steel gas tank here. plastic has no problem lasting 30+ years as long as they don't get damaged.
