LA 360 Budget Build Pistons Question
So I'm a college student looking to build a 360 on an extreme budget to go into my 65 W100
Here are the parts I'm planning on using so far:
Magnum Heads
Summit K6900 Cam
Cheap Jegs four barrel intake
Stock Bottom End
And I'm rebuilding using a cheap engine tech rebuild kit.
Also would like to run cheap stock magnum-type replacement shorty headers (cheap eBay ones) or would I be better off moving up to long tube or staying with the stock logs with this combo?
I want to run the thing on 87-pump gas if possible. Is it better to put in the Speed-Pro H405CP pistons or just stick with the 79' dish pistons? What kind of benefit am I looking at for moving up the speed pros if any? Thanks for any replies.

If you are putting that on an LA block, I don't think the magnum heads will work. They are oiled thru the pushrods, and I don't believe the LA motors do that trick. (but, I could be wrong....)
Long tube headers will give you more bang for the buck.
Pistons might bump your compression ratio a bit, which is likely a good thing, bit more power. Not too weird though, so, should be able to run on 87. If you get spark knock, just dial back timing a bit.

The magnum heads might be a slightly better design.... but, if you are buying them for performance gains, I think a set of nicely prepped LA heads would be a better place to spend your money.
Yeah, a buddy gave them to me and I've looked them over for cracks and I couldn't find any or I would just have ported the stock ones. I just wanted to see if a piston upgrade would be better for quench.
Free is good.
Though, the magnum heads were known for cracking around the valve seats..... Still, if you already have 'em.... think I would send 'em off to the machine shop to be checked, and gone thru before just using them.
