Yes, it returns like it should. I’ve moved it through P R N D several times and it idles and shifts properly. The choke not moving much does concern me though… it’s warm now but it can get pretty cold up here in the winter.

i would try unplugging the wire to the choke thermostat and maybe see if it is getting constant power even when the truck is off. must be some reason for it to not return unless it is the wrong choke thermostat since it does look newer.

Please tell me this is the choke thermostat. If I’m wrong then I’ve learned nothing in all the reading I’ve done.

Finally I’m making progress lol. I disconnected it from power. I guess I’ll let it sit and see what happens.

After a whole night of sitting and cooling with the coil unplugged, the choke was nearly fully open. I’m thinking about removing the coil to examine it. It looks pretty old judging by the power cable.

did you press the gas to reset it? it can not return to the closed position without you hitting the gas which is part of why you are supposed to pump the gas a couple time when starting a cold carbed engine.

Certainly did. I just went back outside to look at it and it looks like it’s closed a bit more.

ok just making sure. definitely seems like there is so something wrong with the choke thermostat if it will not close the choke. can you manually close the choke when you hold the throttle open?

About this far holding the throttle wide open. Looks about the same as the previous picture.
