I was given a 1993 D250 with a 6 cylinder motor from my friend, he parked it 4 years because it it would die after driving it for 20 minutes or so. After 30 minutes or so it would startup. He had a mechanic diagnose the problem. My friend chose not to repair the truck so he parked it next to his barn. He can't remember what the replacement part was, all he remembers is the part cost around $180 or $200 and it was located someplace where the bolts/screws holding it could be very rusty and difficult to remove.
I purchased a Haynes Repair Manual, it wasn't much help in my effort to figure out what the part is.
Can someone help me figure out which part it is?

 

What motor? Fuel pump would be a guess.

 

6 cylinder. I didn't think about the fuel pump.

I guess you haven't seen the new trucks.

 

The first thing I do with a poor running Dodge is put in a new pickup coil. I believe the correct term is Hall Effect sensor. They are also called cam position sensor and also crank position sensor. They are located in the distributor. I just acquired a poor running '88 D100 and a new pickup coil straightened it right out. It can also be other things but I've had good results with a new pickup coil so often that I do that first. Rock Auto is a good source for many parts, but of course there are other sources too. Shoot a little starting fluid or brake cleaner into your air intake. Make sure it doesn't say non-flammable on the can. If it runs a bit then dies, you're not getting fuel. Check the pump relay first. I got a truck once that had the pump replaced when it was just a bad relay.

 

By the way, your truck doesn't look much worse than mine did when I got it. It's turned out to be a good reliable truck.
