Default Fuel Pump prime when key is turned?

Hello,
I think we have a bad fuel pump. When I turn the key to on I don't hear it prime. Should I be hearing the pump?

I don't see a fuse or relay for it.

This is for our 1986 Ram 318.

Thanks in Advance.

You have a mechanical pump. Take the air filter off and look down the carburetor throat. Move the throttle where the cable moves it and see if fuel squirts into the carburetor throat. If you don't see any fuel, it's possible your pump is bad. Older fuel pumps don't like the alcohol in today's fuels. I replaced a bad pump once and the replacement lasted less than a week. Bad bellows in both of them when the rubber failed.
