Default gas VS diesel 727

All,

I have a 1992 Dodge gas truck 4x4. It has the 3 speed 727. I am putting a 4BT in it, and want to still run a 727. The transmission does come on Cummins 1st gen trucks with a different bellhousing to fit on the adapter plate on the diesel engine.

I want to change only the case to a Cummins specific 727. Am I able to use all of the parts on the back of the gas transmission (transfer case and associated output shaft) and just bolt onto the 3 speed Cummins transmission? I'm having a difficult time finding a complete Cummins 4x4 drivetrain to swap in and want to use what I already have and perhaps combine everything to fit onto the back of the new diesel engine. All advice welcome!

T-case mounting should be the same. I *Think* the only difference in the transmissions is the bellhousing, but, not 100% on that.

Thanks for the feedback! I do need to know definitively before I purchase a Cummins 727 donor case. Anyone else?
