Default Rebuilding Engine and Transmission

I have a 1991 Dodge Ram D-150 and I'm looking to rebuild the engine and transmission. I find a Super Stock rebuild kit for the 318 though P.A.W. Perfromance Parts for about $700 for the insides only. I still don't know what transmission I have in this truck. I planing on rebuilding it when I get back from Iraq next year, but I'm shoping right now for parts. I need a good rebuild kit for the transmission and engine and I'm tring not to spend over $3,000.

[sm=gears.gif] I thinking about dropping a 350 in the truck, just because parts easy to come by and cheaper then Dodge parts, and for the transission I what to go for a 5-speed manual transmission.

I rebuilt my 360 and my 727 tranny in my old 82 dodge ram 4x4 and it costed me about $4000 all together. that was me doing all the work (exept for the tranny) and let me tell you it was worth it. I'm wishing I never sold it now. even though I kept the engine and tranny out of her before I sold it. theres just something about your first vehicle and that you never want to lose it. any way I'm planning on putting the drive train into my 84 chrysler 5th ave. next summer so hopefully everything goes good.

350??? the lil 318 will out pull the 350.....my buddy is into 350s and i gave him a ride in a 87 dakota with a bone stock 318 with 250k miles on it and hes like holy crap this thing would out run my dads 350 vtech....350 parts might be cheaper but you can't be the streanght of a 318..also i'd guess the tranny is a A518 automatic overdrive...which is exactly like a Tqflight 727 with the OD. the other one it could be is an A500 wich is exactly like the 904 with the OD. it could be either one...the 727 has a notch out of the passenger side pan and on the 904 its square.

How do I get the dust pan off the bottom front of the bell housing to get to the flywheel/torque converter bolts?

That's a hell of alot, seeing as how the 79-89 rebuild kit for the 318 sells for $340 at summit.

ive had quotes around my house on stock rebuilds for a shop to do it for 700 valve jobs and all. were you going forged or h beams on some parts these could be why.
you cant beat the reliablitly of the 318 just keep and stock rebuild. dont forget to take the 350 to the scrap yard easy 50 bucks for your budget
