Default Paint problems with the Avenger?

Bought the car for my wife back in March. She absolutely loves it. It's the red SXT model. We have had a few issues with it since we got it, but the latest one is with the paint. The inside painted lip of the rear wheel wells behind the back tires on both sides is coming off on the bottoms. Is anyone else having this same problem? Is it something they should be able to fix under warranty? Thanks in advance.

Here's the car btw. Don't have a pic of the missing paint, but I circled the area in the pic of where it's coming up on both sides. Sorry if the circle is a little hard to see.

Can you take a closer look at the paint and confirm if it is coming off, or just not painted? There are tons of spots that they missed on my Avenger and it looks like the paint is coming off but its simply a part that was missed while the car was painted.

Whether it was missed or paint that is coming off it should be covered by the warranty as a new car should not have paint coming off or missed spots.I shudder to think what the dealer will do to fix the problem soI just decided to live with the missed spots (Although they are not on the exterior of the vehicle, my missing spots are in door jams etc..)

They really did a crappy job painting these cars.. they missed tons of spots, the clear coat scratches easily, and the finish has an orange peel effect.

If your dealer gives you any crap over it you can get a can of matching paint and clear coat and just hit those spots as it isnt hard to touch up hidden areas then buff it smooth.. http://www.automotivetouchup.com/

Alternatively you can purchase the moulded mud guards and that will cover the area and protect it at the same time. http://www.autotrucktoys.com/dodge_a...6692C5166.aspx

But those 2 suggestions are just if your dealer gives you a hard time about it or if you want to just deal with the issue yourself.

No the paint is definetly coming off. You can see around the edges of where it's missing, that it's peeling up in pieces. Other than this, I have no other beef with the paint job overall.

It just irks me because we have had way too many problems with this car than we should have for a brand new vehicle. The damn thing was in the shop 3 days after we got it with transmission problems. Of course it happened over the weekend so my wife was stranded with it until Monday and had to miss work to get it to a dealer to fix it. Plus, 2 recalls already, 1 of which lead to a major problem where the car was damaged by our local dealer after making the fix for the recall. We were without the car again for almost 2 weeks while the dealer was sending the car back and forth to a body shop to fix the door that they dented and scratched. Just seemed like for the first 2 months, the car was always in the shop for something. Now this paint thing is really bugging us cuz it's one more headache we shouldn't have to deal with.

I have dirt or pebbles under the paint and hair in with the clearcoat. I have been putting off complaining about it. I also have metallic missing on the trunk. I think I'll complain to the compalints dept for my region for Dodge or Chrysler. Someone had told me somewhere there is someone who takes complaints for Dodge. I first have to go to the dealer and ask who this person is. I also heard either here or at Dodge talk .com about someone had paint problems and their dealer fixed it. I also am taking the car in because the radio does not keep time correctly and the dealer said they would make an even trade with Dodge for a new radio. I also would like to get rid of the annoying noise I get first thing in the morning in the steering colume, Sounds like rubber rubbing. I can imagine how you feel about the paint. It shouldn't happen right?

So 08_Avenger_SXT, did you decide to take it back to the dealer, or are you going to try fixing it yourself? If you decide to do it yourself I'll write up instructions for you if you like..

I have the 2008 Red R/T and we had the same problem with the paint on the wheel well. It was covered. We took it to the Dodge dealer and they took pictures and sent to the warrenty place. In about 4 days they called us back and said it was covered and they took the car in and fixed the paint. Now you can't even tell there was a problem.

Thanks very much for the info. It's good that people like you post things like this. Sometimes when you hear someone else with the same problem it's nice to know, Well not really. That means another shoddy paint job.

Angry 2008 Avenger R/T

I bought my wife a 08 R/T avenger in 2010, about a year and a half ago I noticed a little spot bubbling on the hood along the front edge down next to the grill. Since it was small I didn't think much about it then it started to spread. I took the car to a paint specialist who does warranty work for most of the local dealers that do not have paint and body shops. He told me it wasn't rust because the Avenger has a aluminum hood that the bubbling was caused by oxidation of the aluminum from where it is not properly cleaned before painting, that he has had to redo several of these for the same thing. Most people went ahead and paid to have it fixed. I figured Dodge should take care of it since the car is fairly new and the corrosion was covered for 5 years under warranty. Took the car to local dealer, where I bought the car, and they confirmed it was corrosion. They sent me to another paint and body shop and they confirmed what the other Painter said. Now the manager of the dealership says Dodge should pay for it or at least part, but then service manager talked to Dodge and told them they shouldn't cover it. This coming from a man who doesn't have any experience in the paint and body area. The one thing I do know is the service manager is a idiot because the car was serviced by his department just before I bought the car, and they installed the wrong oil filter. I found this out when I went to change the oil and changed the filter. I looked up the filter in the owners manual and bought a Mopar oil filter and it was not even close to the same as the other and when I called the service manager he said that it didn't matter as long as it was a Mopar filter. Not knowing that the filter was about half the size of the one the manual calls for. I have lost all faith in this local dealership due to the incompetence of the service department Manager.
