You won't smell exhaust, that's the whole point. Unless it's running extrememly rich, or has bad blow by, you would never know there's anything wrong. Ever seen a vehicle that has just run exhaust downturns/dumps in front of the rearend? Check out the damage/rust/corrosion to the trunk area. Seriously man, I wouldn't take the chance........

Ok cool. I've never noticed an issue with (rattling and such), so I'm assuming all will be ok ... at the very least for now. Will check out some mufflers for the truck. Thanks again for the help and suggestions!

Though I'm not sensitive to exhaust and it doesn't particularly bother me, I'd hate to do that to someone else ... especially since I've got a 6 month old boy. I'll hold off on chopping for now and stick to ramguy's suggestion.

EDIT
I'm still fairly new at this, but is this what you guys are talkin about?

And what difference does the length of the tip make? Longer/more quiet, shorter/louder? .... And the diameter of the tip also?

From other threads I've read, the exhaust for my truck has a 2.5" inlet, so I'm assuming that as long as that's correct then the outlet size doesn't matter too much. I'm liking this one because it's definitely in my price range and it's clamp on (don't have to weld it). What do you guys think?

i havent had any issues with rust or whatever and i don even have turndowns, just hacked i off after my muffler and its about 2 feet from the rear axle. i mean when you are driving theres so much air moment that the gasses are dispersed as quickly as they come out the tip.

Good luck.

Thats just a exhaust tip which will go on the end of the exhaust and it will alter the sound a little bit but not much.

Remember guys, in most cases you will not see or smell it.....you'll just go to sleep and not wake up. To the guy with the 6 mos old son, he thanks you dad!

Ok, cool, that's what I thought man ... I suppose I'm a little confused then, or perhaps just not looking in the right places

I know that others here on the board have been talking about the 40-series FM mufflers for around $40-$50, but everywhere I've looked I'm unable to find anything under $70 ... which isn't too terrible, just not in my price range at the moment.

Am I completely missing something ?

That's true. I had a friend and his girlfriend that were sitting in his car. Car had a slight exhaust leak. It was cold weather, so they had the engine running and the windows closed. They found them both dead the next morning.

Unfortunately I have a similar tale of loss, that is why I am insistent regarding this topic.
My condolences on your loss and appreciate you saying what I couldn't.
