Default Transmission interchangability

I have found an extremely low miles trans and transfer case from a 2000 durango 4.7. Anybody know if it will work in my 1998 5.2?

Well, what would be the differences between the 44re and the 45rfe?

What would have to be done to make the 45rfe work in the 98 chassis? Mechanical differences, bell housing bolt pattern? Electronics?

If it can be had at a reasonable price, could 45rfe be made to work in the 98 4wd with the 5.2 engoine. Some one must have done something like this at one time or another.

And now I'm really confused. Te dealer's parts dept says I have 44re, my Haynes (I know, not the most dependable) says the 4 cyl has a 42re, the v6 has the 44 re and the v8 has the 46re. Does anybody really know what the heck is in these things?

ok sorry for the confusion:
auto 4.7 will have 45rfe, manual=nv3500
5.2 manual will have nv3500 or auto 44re

the 5.9 will have the 46re auto only.

all that was from allpar.com

Thanks, Thunder.

Now all I have to do is find out how to make the 45rfe work in place of the 44re.

The owner also has the transfer case still attached to transmission. It will be a trans and transfer case swap.
