Opinions on fixing truck...
Yeah that is a nice clean 5.0. Obviously not a winter vehicle but good for the summer. It probably does better on gas than your Dakota. You should get a set of Saleen wheels for that 5.0, they look awesome on sn95s.
Thanks for the compliments. I think the sn is normally a love/hate thing - people that like the Fox usually hate the sn...their loss, I suppose...
Surprisingly, it is not much better on gas in town...about 17, where I get like 15 in the truck...highway, it eats the truck up though...24 all day long at least...
I thought about doing the wheels/tires/lowering springs/clear lights treatment on the car...
But a part of me wants to keep it straight-up stock...it only has 40,000 miles on it and it hasn't been touched...
I think what I am going to do next winter while it is stored (provided the funds are there) is get a lower intake, some injectors and MAF, and throw a Kenne Bell on it...of course, that will require me to also put some different gears in the rear end, and add some rear lower control arms, and get a tune (no handheld for the OBD-I car
)...
Honestly, I think the mod world for the 'Stang is like crack, and I am afraid if i sample it I will be hooked...so it stays stock for now...

I personally dont like the fox body stangs there is a very rare amount that I see and actually say wow thats a good looking car. My uncle had a green 97 cobra was a awesome looking car but he sold it to get a new mustang
Nice, I didn't know that those mustangs had 5.0's I thought they only did that til the body changed in like 92 and then now again in like 09, but I'm sure it's a different engine. Alleymad- What kind of MPG are you getting in the winter with snow and stuff? I just calculated mine tonight... 13.671. Personally, I think thats terrible for a 6 cyl 2wd truck, I may as well have 4wd.

'94 and '95 came with the same 5.0 that was in the Mustang forever...the accessories are mounted differently because of under-hood clearance issues, the intake and throttle body assembly are different, the input shaft on the manual tranny is a bit longer...all sorts of minor differences...
Here is the interesting thing (I think)...
The V6 in '94 was switched to OBD-II...the V8 remained OBD-I. My '95 V8 actually has an OBD-II harness under the dash...and an OBD-I port under the hood...
In '96 they switched to the modular motor (4.6)...a '96 LOOKS identical to my car...but has a 100% different drivetrain...
New 5.0 is about as different from my 5.0 as a nuclear sub is from the Titanic...sure both went underwater, but that's about it for similarities...
Back to the Dakota...
I get 14-15 mpg in the truck...doesn't seem to matter what I do...18 gallons of gas is 250 miles in the winter, 260 in the summer...
On rare occasions, I can squeeze 275 out of a tank, but that seems to mean I was driving on a 55 mph speed limit road for an extended period...

Well, I just talked to the wife about the whole "we gotta get the truck fixed" thing...
We have concluded:
As long as the cost stays under $3,000, anything wrong with the truck is going to get fixed...now...
So, here is the budget as I see it - let me know if anything seems out of whack:
$300 hubs / axle shafts
$1000 transfer case if needed
$622 and some change tires
$200 fenders
$35 spray paint and bondo
$100 Hughes intake kit
That's $2257, give or take...
No payment, no full-coverage insurance...
Looks like a plan...to me...anyone disagree?

1000 for a transfer case! I sure hope not unless its brand new. Go to the junk yard and pick one up for 100-200.00, Check the fenders out might just able to get a piece of metal welded in and be done with it
