Sorry to hear bout you light switch. Got a 97 and no issues with light switch.
You could take a Multi-meter and check to see how many amps your lights are pullin'. You may have a bad headlight relay or something.
I think the headlight switch just pull a small amount of amps / current. That is sent to the relay and the relay sends the big amps to the lights.
Just something to check.

Didn't say it was out. Said it could have an issue. On my 97, in the fuse box under the hood is where the head light relay is/should be. Most of the relays are the same part number. You could try to change one for another and see how it works. like change out the headlight relay and the horn relay.
Like someone on your other post said the circuit is drawing too much current. Since both sides are melted it seems it would be from the switch out not in.
It may be time to get a wiring diagram and start tracing wires.
Its like when taking off a nut. We put a wrench on it and turn the wrench in the correct direction but nothing moves. Then we apply more and more pressure until something gives. The relay could have issues and need more current to make the contacts inside the relay move. Result is heat. Could be something else entirely.

It is leaking where the rubber hose is crimped to the metal (first replacement was OEM, 2nd after market) - my transmission cooler lines are also leaking at this point as well. Just frustrating.
