Default leaving your truck in gear while parked.

All you guys on here that have a manual transmission dakota (or any manual trans vehicle) what do you think about leaving it in gear without the handbrake when parking ? I just leave it in first. I don't use my handbrake because i'm afraid it will stick.

I've had several friends that did that. Really depend son the clutch more than anything- a truck clutch can handle it. Anything hotter than like a stock corvette clutch is pretty much 100% disengaged without centrifugal force.

hey thanks for the input. I've always wondered if it was hard on the trans/clutch to leave it parked while in gear.

Depends where it is parked. If you check your ebrake out once a year it should never stick with normal use. I always put mine in gear. Now I will every single friggin time. This is what happens when you leave your truck running and put faith in just your Ebrake. I figured im not even gonna be 30sec it will be fine if I turn the tires up hill........ Boy was I mistaken.....

I always set the brake and leave it in gear. In 14 years it has never stuck.

I find it crazy how that engine can make that kind of power with only a few mods, just wow.

"check your e-brake" ? good idea. i learned this working at Case mfg many years ago. a parking brake is to keep it from rolling at stop. an emergency brake is to stop a moving vehicle.
