Default Uneven control arm height?

2000 Dakota 4x4. Recently changed upper control arms and shocks on both sides. I was trying to make some adjustments for camber and castor, and although I got pretty close to spec., I noticed that the driver's side upper CA is almost a half inch closer to the bump stop than the passenger side, it's actually touching it I checked the ride height on a level surface and the distance from the lower CA bolt to the ground is the same on both sides. How could this be? Nothing looked bent. I could really use some help on this one cuz I just don't get it. Thanks.
