So axle pumpkin size has to do with the gearing? I can't find anything in the FSM regarding this.

No, it has nothing to do with gearing or type of differential. The smaller differentials were used on trucks with smaller motors - 4, 6 and I think the smaller 8 cyls. The 9.25" was used behind the 360 exclusively, and don't quote me on what's behind 318 or 287's, but probably 8.25's.

Either axle could have LSD, either axle could have 3.55 or 3.92 ratios.

The Mopar synthetic gear oil is $26 a quart! and it will take 5 quarts to cover both of my diff's.
Non LSD is the 8.25" rearend, LSD is 9.25". You most likely have non LSD given the VIN and dealer verifying.
According to the dealer, I have the 9.25" and it is not LSD. The young man behind the counter could not answer any follow up questions, pretty much all he could do was read the computer, which is why I brought this up. I am not too confident in what he told me. I'm going to add the lubricant anyway.

Lol! Not sure about Mopar, but coming from a Nissan world. The pricing they see on the screen is dealer cost and MSRP. Anything in between is called the squeeze factor, meaning how much can they squeeze yer boys before you scream. When driving Nissans, parts dude quotes price, I say no dealer across town gives me a Car Club discount of 20%. Works everytime. Anything dealer-service is rape. The only thing I buy from any dealer is something "factory" I can not source otherwise. I will use junkyards, forums, ebay and aftermarket first everytime Dealer is last resort always, especially for service items. I'll go and buy my own fairydust, thank you very much.
Interesting point. I did not know dealerships would negotiate on parts. I wasn't as crafty about it as you. When the parts guy told me $26/quart, I said "How much!" in a pretty loud and truly surprisedvoice. He said "Just a minute" and disappeared into the back room. He came back out and said "How does $20/quart sound?" No witty come back from me, sorry- I just took the offer.

So you're absolutely correct - parts from a dealership are overpriced and negotiable!

if you look in your glove box it wil tell you what axle you have, gear ratio and if it has LSD.
